Hot, Hot, Hot!

July 31, 2010

All we can talk about is how hot July has been. Becca luckily was able to escape to the Maryland shore for some fun in the sun and water. Though Flying Horse Farm hasn’t been actively competing in July, a lot has happened!

Congratulations to Mindy on the purchase of her new horse, Crime Wave! Crime Wave went from the race track to novice level eventing in less than a year in 2009, but then spent the majority of 2010 out to pasture. He’ll need a lot of work on the flat, but he is a brave and forward jumper with a clean cross country record. Along with working on basics with Crime Wave, Mindy is introducing lateral moves and extensions to Apollo’s dressage education with the hopes of competing at First Level last this year.

Congratulations to Victoria and her family on the completion of their farm renovations! Though this meant that Krimpet moved home and we don’t see Victoria regularly anymore, we’re excited that they get to pursue their own farm dreams.

We also welcomed a new boarder to the farm this month, Natasha and her horse, Paris! We’re looking forward to getting to know both horse and rider. Look for their profile on the “Horses in the Barn” page soon!

Becca and Crystal took a cross-country lesson with Sally Cousins earlier this month at Fair Hill. It was a great success and both riders and horses had a lot of fun despite the heat! Donato is growing into a cross-country machine – nothing seems to back him off!

A new ditch and a portable coop have been added to the cross country field at Flying Horse Farm. Many thanks to Laec and Crystal’s grandfather for their hard work! Becca plans on building a bank eventually to round out the basic cross country concepts available to riders at the farm.
